Drop into the Chat Shop for Community Conversations

Drop in for some Community Conversations

Chatting about Dunoon, past, present and future, will be the focus of a temporary Community Chat Shop opening for four weeks on Argyll Street from 18 November.

Dunoon Area Alliance, the town’s Community Development Trust, in partnership with volunteers from the American Years Revisited project, will be welcoming all in for a blether between 10.30am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday at 165 Argyll Street (formerly Nail Adventures).

The American Years Revisited voluntary group was established to explore, record and share the stories connected to 31 years of US Naval Base presence on the Holy Loch (from 1961 to 1992) and the impact this period had on the history and heritage of our community. With grant support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund the group has created pop-up exhibition banners and a website that hosts a series of fascinating podcasts featuring oral histories from local people and US Navy personnel who were based here.

The Community Chat Shop will showcase the exhibition, allow people to hear the podcasts and encouraging new conversations and reminiscences about this fascinating period in our town’s history.

Dunoon Area Alliance (DAA) is the town’s Community Development Trust supporting community-led action on local priorities. Membership is free to anyone who lives, works or studies in Dunoon. DAA Trust has grown from place-based regeneration action led by SURF, Scotland's Regeneration Network. A priority of the Trust is to support community conversations to identify local priorities and to encourage cross-sector collaboration in finding solutions.

Volunteer members will be on hand to chat about current activities and future plans.
